The Finalist

Teacher's Name:

Brian Muñoz

Grade:

9th-12th

Subject Area (If Applicable):

Orchestra

School Name:

Wakefield High School

School City:

Raleigh

School State:

NC

Teacher's Bio

:

Brian Muñoz teaches Music for ninth through twelfth grades. He arranges unique field trips for students to work with clinicians and perform in places like New York and Atlanta, so that they can experience culture around America. Muñoz's students have opportunities to play at community events, or in pit orchestras for musicals, and chamber groups for school functions. On a daily basis, students are exposed to technology in the classroom. They use Smart Music, which gives them feedback on the notes and rhythms they play; and, they use Finale to compose, arrange or transcribe. Muñoz would use the $10,000 grant to further develop the use of these technological programs in his classroom.

Mr. Muñoz's class has been my favorite part of the school day since I was a sixth grader four years ago.

Brian Munoz was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1992 for his work on creating a meal from nothing more than bread, jelly, peanut butter and a 500-watt argon laser powered by flatulence. His campaign to remove Confederate soldiers from Civil War reenactments was pivotal in ensuring consistent victory for the North and was the main reason he was awarded Man of the Year by Time Magazine before its inception. His ability to travel forward through time at a consistent 1:1 ratio, to barter peace with our ant overlords in 2525 and to slam-dunk from the half-court makes him an invaluable member of the faculty.

I student taught from Meredith College last year with Brian Munoz and learned so much from him. He taught me how to be a good music educator and I couldn't have made it through my first year of teaching without him. Brian has developed a phenomenal orchestra program at Wakefield HS and his students are very special. As a student teacher, the students treated me with the utmost respect because of the way he had laid the foundation. He taught me so much about conducting, musicianship, and life in general. To this day, even with his busy schedule, he takes the time to offer advice and support through my first year of teaching. This orchestra program deserves $10,000 and I trust that Brian Munoz will use it to its' full potential.

P.S. I miss all of you guys!!!

Mr. Munoz is an amazing teacher for our students. My son has had him as a teacher for the past 4 years. During this time our son has grown to love music, become more sensitive to music as an art, become more skilled as a musician, become more driven in becoming a better musician, and grown as a young adult in his responsibilities to the orchestra family. This could only have been achieved through the instruction of Mr. Munoz. Please continue to vote, as our music programs continue to need support and as Mr. Munoz deserves the credit due for all his hard work, dedication and devotion to our kids.

As I stated in my previous comment I am very exited for this chance for our orchestra program to get $10,000. I've known Mr.Munoz for only one semester and I've already learned so much from him. Not just about orchestra, but things to remember through life as well. Enough to say that he has defiantly earned it. We don't need luck!!!

He was my high school orchestra conductor and he was such a great teacher. He always worked really hard for the class and he also brought new activities and lesson plans for his students. I loved his lesson plans and these helped me to continue studying music in college. The orchestra program with Mr.Munoz was the best musical experience in my life!

This grant would greatly benefit the Wakefield Orchestra students. Mr. Munoz is an amazing teacher who dedicates his time to the music program. I had the opportunity to work with him throughout my middle and high school education for six years, and some of my greatest high school memories were from the New York and Atlanta trips that Mr. Munoz arranged. I hope this grant would give future students an opportunity to excel and develop a love for music. Vote for Mr. Munoz!

I am in Mr.Munoz's Beginning Strings class and I am amazed at how far I have come in just the few weeks I have been his student. At the beginning of the semester I thought I was going to come into a classroom setting full of incredibly smart and extremely gifted and talented people; people who I thought I had no business being around. Although I am in a class surrounded by wonderful people, Mr.Munoz has made my experience enlightening, and fun. He taught me to take baby steps and introduced me to a new passion! Thank you Mr.Munoz!!!!

While Mr. Munoz's main job is with Strings, he has also helped the band in ways you can't imagine. He does so much for the Arts program and i hope that he can continue to grow the orchestra program. Please vote if you haven't already and tell all your friends and family too. The arts are dying in schools because people don't appreciate what we do. We not only help the community, but we become better people in life.
